Should new nurtition laws be institued into New Jersey Schools?

Should new nutrition laws be instituted into New Jersey Schools? In the past few years more and more children are becoming overweight and even obese. The big question is whether its the parents or the schools fault. If its the schools fault, new cafeteria menus will need to be instituted and new laws restricting the amount of calories, grams of fat, and calories from fat will have to be put into effect. Vending machines containing sodas and sugary sports drinks will have to be removed from schools and new machines only selling water will have to replace them. In addition to this, schools may need to alter their physical education programs to make younger children become more active so they can burn off the unnecessary calories they consume. In addition to regular school, day care and after school activities can also help contribute to a child becoming obese because snack time is used to kill time and it keeps children occupied. If it is the parents fault, the home dynamics will have to change and parents will have to start changing the ways their children eat starting at birth. If children are over fed while they are young, they will most likely consume more than enough food during childhood and the teen years. If children are fed unhealthy foods by their parents, they will think it is ok and they won't know when to stop consuming them. Parents should teach their children at a young age how to eat properly. This would include teaching them portion control and the right types of foods and snacks. In addition to teaching them the right way to eat, parents would have to make their children's meals. Studies show that children who have two working parents who do not prepare meals and eat like traditional families are more likely to be overweight. Studies also show that a child's weight fluctuates the most during summer vacation, when they are only the parents responsibility. I chose this topic because obesity in children is a serious problem. I also chose this topic to learn about the new nutrition laws. These new nutrition laws that are being instituted will not only help overweight children in schools, but every other child who purchases cafeteria food. Just because the food was not affecting their outside doesn't mean its not affecting their inside.

I agree with the fact that parents should control what there children eat and the point that snack time is just a ploy for the youngest students to pass the time.
